WELCOME TO Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center!

Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center is a 81 bed not-for-profit community hospital serving Navajo and Apache counties in Northeastern Arizona. The hospital has a family atmosphere that embraces a culture of positive attitude and mutual respect and promotes teamwork. This is most evident in the Service Standard Behavior Guidelines which all staff are expected to uphold. You will be given a copy of the service standard behavior guidelines when you arrive.

Things you need to know about working at Summit Healthcare:

  • Parking for employees/ students is provided along White Mountain Blvd in the Northwest parking lot or at the far east end of the main parking lot at the hospital entrance.
  • Cafeteria services: the Main cafeteria serves three meals each day. Breakfast is served from 7:30 until 9:30.
  • Lunch is served from 11:30 until 1:30 and dinner is served from 5:00 until 6:30. In addition, a salad bar is open in the main cafeteria from 11 AM - 7 PM . There is also the "Around the Corner" Café located at the front of the hospital near the gift shop. The Café is open from 11 AM until 3:30 PM and offers items such as burgers, sandwiches and dessert items. Within a short walk of the hospital are several restaurants, including McDonald's, Wendy's, Quizno's Subs, Samaurai Sam's, Papa John's Pizza and La Casita (Mexican). In addition, a number of local restaurants deliver to the hospital (Coffee Mania, Domino's Pizza, Pizza Factory, etc).
  • All employees/ students are required to wear identification badges at all times while on campus
  • Nursing Chain of Command: Each unit has Charge Nurses (called Clinical Nurse Leaders - CNL) who are responsible for the function of the unit during their shift. The Administrative Shift Coordinator (ASC) is the nursing house supervisor during night and weekend hours. Unit directors have 24 hour responsibility for the unit. Unit Directors answer to the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • All bed placement is done through an ASC known as the "One Call Nurse"
  • Summit Healthcare is a non-smoking campus for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Patient documentation is done through a computerized charting system called CPSI. Further education on using CPSI will be provided to you prior to your first shift.
  • Students coming after 9 PM to get assignments will need to enter through the emergency room entrance, as the main doors are locked at this time.
  • The hospital main phone number is 928-537-4375.
  • Dress code for all staff includes scrubs (NO denim or solid black scrubs are permitted). Long hair must be pulled back. Dangling earrings, bracelets and necklaces are not permitted. Please limit rings to wedding bands due to infection control. Artificial nails, overlays, and tips are not permitted. Nail polish may be worn, but cannot be chipped. Shoes must be closed toes and made of leather or vinyl. No fabric or open toed shoes are permitted to prevent the employee from exposure to contaminated materials. Clogs are acceptable if they are rubber soled medical clogs.
  • Shift report on all units (except home health) starts at 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM . All staff/ students are expected to be ready to begin report at that time.
  • Hospital policies and procedures can be accessed on the desktop of computers in each unit through the Hospital Manuals icon. Routine nursing procedures can be found in Nursing Procedures (Springhouse) and Pediatric Procedures (Lippencott) found at each nurses' station
  • MED SURG "SHARED CARE" : Med surg staffing ratios: Day shift: 1 RN to 4 patients; night shift 1 RN to 5 patients .Report is given nurse to nurse. Two nurses share one tech. After licensed report is obtained, nurses report to shared techs.
