Policy
NRMC supports a clean air environment throughout the
hospital campus and the reduction of the risks associated
with tobacco use and exposure to second hand smoke. The sale
of cigarettes and tobacco products on the NRMC campus is
prohibited.
In keeping with the NRMC Mission, Quality Healthcare,
Optimal Wellness, NRMC prohibits the use of tobacco products
on the NRMC campus and in NRMC vehicles. This policy applies
to all individuals on the NRMC campus. Adherence to this
policy is a condition to continued employment and medical
staff privileges at NRMC. Tobacco Use Cessation information
is available to patients, hospital and medical staff who
desire information on how to stop using tobacco products.
Tobacco cessation assistance may be provided to employees,
allied health professionals and medical staff through the
NRMC Employee Health department.
Procedure
Adherence
All hospital employees, allied health professionals and
medical staff share and have the responsibility to enforce
this policy. Management, Supervisory Staff, Executive
Leadership and Medical Executive Committee Leadership are
expected to enforce this policy and ensure compliance.
All applicants for employment, Allied Health Professional
privileges, Medical Staff privileges, volunteer duties,
contract employees, and students will be informed of the
Tobacco Use Policy during the application and orientation
process.
Any of the above listed persons observed using tobacco
products on the hospital campus are to be reported to the
appropriate supervisor/department manager/medical staff
committee
Patients and Visitors
Employees, allied health professionals and medical staff
members are authorized and encouraged to communicate our
Tobacco Free Campus policy with courtesy and diplomacy to
patients and visitors desiring to use Tobacco products on
the NRMC campus. Patients and visitors will be notified of
the policy prior to arrival whenever possible. Signs stating
“NRMC is a tobacco free campus” will be posted at all
building entrances and at seating areas around the hospital
campus. Receptacles for cigarette butts will be located in
such a manner that encourages disposal of smoking materials
well away from all entry ways and ventilation intake
systems.
