First Annual Summit Healthcare Regional Medical
Center Community Health Fair
Thank you to all who participated at Summit Healthcare’s First Annual Community Health Fair on June 6. The information and education that you provided was very well received by the Health Fair attendees. Our only regret was the weather – the strong wind gusts created a safety hazard with the tents, and therefore we had to take the majority of them down almost immediately after they were set up. In spite of the weather, we signed up multiple new patients for our diabetes program and for Summit Pain Clinic, and we had a new Pet Therapy dog sign up to volunteer at the hospital! Our blood drive in conjunction with United Blood Services brought in eighteen whole blood donations and two Power Red donations. Sixty children received “casts” on their fingers and Dr. Johnson treated at least that many teddy bears (and penguins, lions, etc)! Dr. Bailey and Cindy Ackzen fitted over 30 bike helmets and educated the children and their parents on bike helmet safety. We demonstrated to at least 30 parents the dangers of children in and around cars with “Spot the Tot’. The Drug Dump collected a large bucket of prescription pills. The PSA Clinic saw 26 men and we are hopeful that we assisted them with their health and wellness. And the Make A Wish foundation collected $110 in donations, which will assist the seven local children that are in the process of getting their wishes granted!
